    Pośmiertna płyta Franka Zappy „The Lost Episodes” ukazała się w 1996 roku. Była jednym z kilku wydawnictw przygotowywanych przez Zappę na krótko przed śmiercią.
    Praktycznie w całości przygotowany materiał został wydany w formie pięknego digipacku, a jego premierowa sprzedaż rozpoczęła się 27 lutego.
    Zawartość muzyczna, to zgodnie z tytułem EPIZODY z działalności Franka w swych pierwotnych wersjach.
    Zestaw ponad 3o krótkich utworów, obejmujących zakresem czasowym wczesne dokonania Zappy z 1958 roku, aż po wzbogacony dźwiękami synclawiera w 1992 roku, utwór z 1969 roku. Ciekawostką tego wydawnictwa jest 5 utworów nagranych wspólnie z Captainem Beefheartem, który tutaj występuje jeszcze jako Don Vliet i Don Van Vliet. Choć słowo nagranych jest zbyt mocne,
    bo w dużej mierze są to wygłupy, jak choćby utwór "Lost in a Whirlpool", który jest parodią bluesa śpiewaną z wnętrza
    muszli klozetowej.
    Większość zamieszczonych na „The Lost Episodes” utworów znalazła się na późniejszych albumach Zappy w innych wersjach, a
    tutaj stanowią jakby „tracks in progress”. Na uwagę zasługuje ponad 11 minutowa wersja utworu Sharleena”, który w tej formie nie ukazał się, aż do 1996 roku.
    Wersja utworu „Anyway The Wind Blows” to nagrany w studio Z w Cucamonga w 1963 pierwowzór kawałka, który trzy lata później znalazł się na debiutanckiej płycie The Mothers. Utwór "Fountain of Love" został nagrany w tym samym czasie, ale czekał aż do 1968 roku, do płyty „Cruising with Ruben & the Jets”
    Zappa pamiętał o tym, że miał zawsze pod ręką – jak każdy twórca – szufladę z niewykorzystanymi pomysłami i sięgał do niej od czasu do czasu.
    Cztery ze znajdujących się tutaj utworów pojawiło się na płytach „Mystery Disc”, które w formie winylowej ukazywały się jako uzupełnienie boxów „The Old Masters”.
    Z punktu widzenia poznawczego, ta płyta to ważna pozycja dla miłośników talentu Zappy.
    Muzycznie nierówna, bo nie mogła być inna, wiedząc, że to dopiero diamenty, które trzeba oszlifować by stały się brylantami.
